9 European countries agree to accept Covishield vaccinated travelers

After India’s strong warning, nine European countries on Thursday have agreed to accept Indian travelers who received Covishield vaccines.

According to a PTI report, nine European nations have agreed to accept Covishield for travel to their countries. Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland and Spain are among the countries that will allow travel by people who have taken Covishield shots.

In addition to nine  countries, Switzerland and Estonia have also included Covishield in ‘green pass’.

Earlier, India had warned European countries reciprocal action after they denied entry to travellers who carry vaccination certificates issued through Cowinportal showing they were inoculated Serum Inistitutes’ Covishield vaccine.
India said unless the European Union accepts Covishield and Covaxin certificates, their certificates will not be accepted in the country and people from EU will face mandatory quarantine upon arrival in India.

European Union has been told that Covishield and Covaxin must be notified in its digital Covid certificate, sources said.

The proposed EE’s Digital COVID certificate or “Green Pass” which would be rolled out on Thursday is aimed to facilitate free movement during the COVID-19 pandemic. The travelers who have taken vaccines authorized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) will be exempted from travel restrictions within the EU region under this arrangement.
