The man who converted a rubber plantation as a forest for birds and animals
This one – acre land situated at Mannamangalam, Thrissur of Kerala state is a forest and home to different kinds of animals and birds. The vegetation here is not cultivated for trade purpose, but for providing food for the animals and birds living here. It is the result of the hard work of Gopalakrishnan, a former bank employee.
Gopalakrishnan retired from the State Bank of Travancore in 2014.Since then he and his wife Chinnamma have been planting trees every day and this has finally shaped up as a forest which was previously a rubber plantation. Gopalkrishnan bought this land only to feed the animals and birds. So, no trespassing is allowed here.
Today, there are more than one thousand plants, in which 200 are fruit trees and 80 more are medicinal plants, here.
“While humans are social beings and they help each other, birds and animals depend on nature for their existence”. Gopalakrishanan cited the reason for growing a forest to feed animals and birds.
