Ayurveda: Home remedies for fatty liver
According to a study published in a research journal, type 2 diabetes is the result of abnormalities in the synthesis of glucose from the liver.
This study says that type 2 diabetes may be caused by a liver disease too. Thus, it is important to know that those who have liver disorders including that of fatty liver have an increased chance of getting diabetes.
Those suffer from fatty liver, should have a diet that has less calories and a lot of fibre, a good amount of proteins and carbohydrates. The fat in the diet should be strictly controlled.
Here are some Ayurvedic tips which could help in this regard.
- Breakfast should contain different kinds of fruits and salads. Intake of idly and dosa should be greatly reduced. The afternoon meals should have reduced amount of rice and dishes. The side dishes with rice can include several green leafy vegetables and other traditional dishes made from elephant foot yam, berries, green gram, horse gram, celery, onion stems, ash gourd, pumpkin, bitter gourd and snake gourd.
- Curd should be avoided. Instead, butter milk after skimming the fat can be used. This can be had with crushed ginger and curry leaves. Regular consumption of butter milk in the above said manner can also improve the functioning of the liver.
- Sardines and other small fish that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids can be had in the curry form and not fried. This is good for fatty liver conditions. Red meat and chicken should be avoided. Dinner should always be taken before 8pm. It should include a plate of salads first and then a single dosa that is either made of ragi or wheat flour.
- Different dishes made of ragi, barley and oats can be tried. For salads, one can use cucumber, carrot, broccoli, gooseberry, tindora and cooked green gram. Different types of fruit salads too can be tried.
- The best juice to be had is that of Pomegranate. Different vegetable juices too are good for healing the fatty liver. Daily uses of spices are also good in containing fatty liver disease. Cloves, turmeric, ginger and curry leaves are also good in treating fatty liver.
- Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Having alcohol without understanding the condition can easily lead to liver cirrhosis.
- Fried foods, fatty foods like red meat and pork, soft drinks, and sweet bakery items should be avoided.
- One should also do exercise to remain fit. Different yoga poses like surya namaskar, bhujangasanam, pavana mukthasanam are good to be practiced. Along with these, Ayurveda treatments for two months can help one to overcome fatty liver disease.
Salad recipe for fatty liver disease
Cut broccoli into small pieces, mix it with salt. Cook and set it aside. In another dish, keep onion pieces, cloves and dried red chilly along with lemon juice. Mix the cooked broccoli twitches this mixture. The salad is ready.
