Ayurveda recommends pistachio as the best nut for sound sleep; know all its benefits
In today’s unhealthy lifestyle choices, sleep problems are becoming common due to lack of certain nutrients and poor sleep hygiene. According to some evidence, inadequate intake of nutrients like vitamins A, C, D, E, and K, calcium, and magnesium can lead to sleep trouble. However, some foods like nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables can fix sleep issues, and pistachio is considered the best nut for sleep problems as per Ayurveda.
Ayurveda experts say that pistachios have the highest amount of melatonin among all nuts, making them best for sound sleep. Melatonin helps sleep longer and fall asleep quickly, and improves sleep quality necessary for healing physical, mental, health, and autoimmune disorders. Pistachios also supply magnesium and Vitamin B6 to the body, which aids restful sleep. Magnesium helps achieve deep and restful sleep, while Vitamin B6 plays a crucial role in the synthesis of GABA, tryptophan, and serotonin, which impact sleep. Tryptophan is an amino acid that produces serotonin, the “happy hormone” that stabilizes mood.
According to Ayurveda, pistachios are vata-shamaka, guru, and ushna, making them suitable for people with anxiety, insomnia, mindless food cravings, and obesity. They improve appetite, sexual power, mood, and even sleep, and are beneficial for the heart too.
Ayurveda experts suggest having a handful of pistachios one hour before bedtime instead of popping magnesium and melatonin pills to those struggling with sound sleep. They also recommend consuming Ayurvedic herbs like brahmi, ashwagandha, jatamansi, tagar, shakhpushpi, and other stress-relieving and sleep-improving Ayurvedic herbs at bedtime with milk or water for those with insomnia, disturbed sleep, over-thinking, and anxiety.
