British Airways Announces More Weekly Flights Between India and London-Details
British Airways has announced that it would operate 10 to 20 more flights on India – London route per week starting from August 16, 2021.
Earlier, Indian government had permitted the UK carriers to operate 34 flights per week.
It is in the wake of heavy traffic on this route that the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India allowed 30 frequencies (60 Flights) weekly flights to operate between India and the UK under its Vande Bharat Mission.
“Out of the 30 frequencies per week available to Indian carriers, 26 frequencies have been allotted to Air India and the remaining 4 frequencies have been allotted to Vistara Airlines,” the ministry said.
There were allegations that airlines had charged exorbitant fares on this route.
According to the announcement by British Airways, the airline has scheduled 20 direct return flights connecting Delhi, Mumbai,Bengaluru and Hyderabad to London Heathrow.
“It is wonderful to see connections between India and London being restored after months of uncertainty caused by the global pandemic. These additional new flights will allow our Indian customers, who have waited so patiently, to reunite with their loved ones,” Moran Birger, British Airways head of sales for South Asia, the middle east, and Africa said.
“The flights also provide new travel options for Indian students wishing to travel to the UK and beyond for further studies, ahead of the start of a new academic year,” he added.
Earlier, Britain has eased travel restrictions for Indians from ‘Red’ to ‘Amber.’
This means Indians can now travel to the United Kingdom without the mandatory 10-day hotel quarantine.
