CBSE, ICSE Cancel 10th, 12th Exam Scheduled For July

In a big relief to students, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Thursday informed the Supreme Court that it will not conduct the class 10th scheduled for July 1-15 while the students of Class 12th will be provided an option of appearing in exams after conditions are conducive. The Class 12 students will get the option to appear in examinations or take assessment on the basis of their performance in past three exams.

Whereas, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has also informed the supreme court that they were ready to cancel the remaining board examinations of both Class 10 and Class 12 students. The students would be promoted on the basis of internal assessment system which would be released later.

The decision of the boards has come after the Supreme Court asked them to consider cancelling the class 10 and Class 12 board exams in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. It was during the hearing of plea from a group of parents, Supreme court made this proposal.

In their plea, the parents asked for cancellation of the remaining board exams considering the threat of Covid-19 pandemic. They argued that conducting examinations over 15,000 centers throughout the country might make the children at the risk of contracting Covid-19. It also asked the board to allot marks to students for the remaining papers based on their internal assessment and performance in practicals and examinations they conducted in March.
