Germany imposes lockdown again until April 18; Merkel urges citizens stay home during Festival season

The German government has again imposed lock down to contain the spread of coronavirus for 26 more days. Therefore the lock down will remain until April 18.

The decision was taken after the consultation with the heads of 16 states.

According to news agency Reuters, German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged the citizens to stay at home during the Easter festive season.

According to the report, the German Chancellor asked the leaders of Germany’s 16 states to take tougher measures in order to help curb the pandemic, undoing plans for a gradual re-opening of the economy agreed earlier this month.

Just three weeks ago, the German government had announced that it would recommence the economic activities due to the steady decline in case rates. However, with 57 per cent increase in daily new cases in two weeks, Germany again becomes tangled in another coronavirus wave.

On Monday, the coronavirus rate in Germany went up to 107,3 new cases per 100.000 citizens which is above the crucial limit of 100. German government had earlier announced that if the cases hit beyond the crucial limit it would impose “emergency brake”.
