India temporarily suspends inbound U.K flights

As SARS CoV-2 is spreading fiercely in the U.K, India has decided to enforce temporary ban on inbound U.K flights till 31st December .

“Considering the prevailing situation in the UK, Indian govt has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December. This suspension to start w.e.f. 11.59 pm, 22nd December,” the Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted.

Moreover, the ministry also added that as a measure of abundant precaution, passengers arriving from UK in all transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before 22nd Dec at 23.59 hrs) should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the airports concerned.

Earlier on Monday Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had asked the centre to stop all flights from the UK.

”New mutation of corona virus has emerged in UK, which is a super-spreader. I urge central govt to ban all flights from UK immediately,” Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet.

According to CNN, at least four European countries have stopped flights from the UK — Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Germany. Reports suggest that the European Union countries are now looking at a collective step in response to the revelation that this strain of SARS CoV-2 is over 70% more infectious, the report said.
