Mushrooms can help prevent cancer
The general belief is that Pancreas cancer is a chronic disease which can neither be treated nor prevented effectively. But researchers say a change in lifestyle and food habits can do a lot in preventing this deadly disease.
Scientists suggest quite a lot of nutrients , which can be added to the daily diet to treat this disease.
A new study conducted by Japanese researchers adds Mushrooms to this list as it is found that consuming mushrooms could be very beneficial in preventing pancreas cancer along with its other benefits. The study is published in the International Journal of Cancer.
According to the authors, a study in human beings found that the white button mushroom could also reduce the levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA) — the primary biomarker for prostate cancer — and it has the ability to boost the body’s immune response to cancer.
The Japanese researchers had access to the data of 36,499 Japanese men between the ages of 40 and 79 years from Miyagi Cohort Study and the Ohsaki Cohort Study and followed them for a median of 13.2 years. Meantime, the researchers classified this group of men into 5 categories in terms of mushroom consumption. It included a list of men who had never taken mushrooms in their life and men who had taken mushrooms every day.
Apart from this, there is another list that contains members who consume mushroom monthly and weekly.
During the follow-up period, 3.3% of participants that means 1,204 men were found affected by prostate cancer and to the researchers’ surprise, those who consumed mushroom three or four times and one or two times each week had lesser risk of affecting cancer by 17% and 8% respectively.
So the study concludes that Mushroom has a very positive role in prevention of Pancreas cancer.
It was predicted earlier that in 2019 there would be around 174,650 new cases of prostate cancer in the U.S alone.
