The U.S will let in only the Covishield-vaccinated passengers from India
The United States has decided to allow fully vaccinated passengers from 33 countries to enter the country. Although India is among the 33 countries, the passengers from India who recieved Covishield jab will only be allowed to enter the country.
It is the Covishield vaccine that has been included in the list of vaccines which are approved by the U.S, an NDTV report said. Those who are inoculated with the indigenous Indian vaccines are not permitted to enter the U.S, according to the new rules.
The rules will take effect from November on wards.
The US will let in fully vaccinated air travelers from the 26 so-called Schengen countries in Europe, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Greece, as well as Britain, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also made it clear that it will only allow people who received any FDA-authorized jab or any vaccine that has been authorized by the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is the Covishield made in India that has been approved by the WHO.
Foreign nationals will need to submit the vaccination certificates before travel and will not be required to under go quarantine on arrival.
Until now, only seven vaccines have been approved by the WHO. These include Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Covishield (an Oxford-AstraZeneca formulation) and China’s Sinopharm and Sinovac.
