Vande Bharat Mission: Viswanathan Anand stuck in Germany back in India
India’s five-time World chess champion, Viswanathan Anand, who was stuck in Germany for about three months, is back in India. Thanks to Indian government’s Vande Bharat Mission, his family said.
Anand landed in Bengaluru on Saturday, and from there he reached his home in Chennai. “He has gone into 14 days of institutionalised quarantine,” Anand’s wife Aruna told , reports The Hindu.
“He is relieved and happy that he has at last been able to reach India,” said Aruna.
She also said that Anand was thankful to the central government for making the return easier not only for him but of the Indians who stranded in different parts of the world. “He appreciated the efforts the governments took in this regard,” Aruna said. “It certainly would not have been easy to organise all these flights.”said Aruna.
Anand had gone to Germany in February to play in the Bundesliga. But due to the spread of Covid-19 the tournament has been cancelled.
