Yogurt and some helpful tips from Ayurveda
Yogurt, one of the most used condiments in Indian cuisine, is Dhathi in Ayurveda.According to Ayurveda Yogurt stimulates agni (fire), increases weight and strength. However, referred as heavy (Guru Guna), oily and hot, Ayurveda recommends Yogurt only in certain conditions.
Dr.Shabu an Ayurveda physician from Kerala describes the conditions where Yogurt is included and avoided in the daily intake.
Here are the conditions where Yogurt should be avoided
- It is not recommended to take Yogurt daily
- Do not take Yogurt at night
- Generally, Yogurt is not recommended during summer.
- It is also prohibited during winter and spring seasons.
- It is not recommended to take Yogurt with hot meals. Boiling the yogurt is also prohibited.
- It can be harmful to consume yogurt in the above said conditions as it may create toxic Raktha,Kabha and Pitha
- Allergic,Skin,Asthmatic and Sinusitis patients should be abstained from taking yogurt.
- People who suffer from Rheumatoid arthritis, heavy bleeding, fever and Jaundice disease should avoid taking yogurt.
Conditions where yogurt can be taken
- Taking Yogurt with sugar and rock candy may relieve inflammation pain.
- It is very tasty taking yogurt with honey
- Foods made of yogurt and gooseberry may eradicate doshas.
- Taking yogurt with ginger and other spices will increase digestible power.
- Rasala, a traditional yogurt drink will help reduce cold and fever.
